You may be ready to hire a skip, but you don’t always know what to ask or what you might need to know before you book. Here are some questions that you might want to ask or explore with us or any other skip hire company before you do so!
- How long do you need the skip for?
You and the company you work with will need to know how long you want the skip for. Can you fill it in a day, or will it be there over the course of a project? Maybe it will take a few days to fill it even if the project is finished. The more days you have the skip, the more it can cost, but equally you don’t want your skip taken away before you have finished.
2. Do I need a skip permit?
You will need a skip permit if you are placing your skip on a road. Make sure you ask your skip hire company whether they will be doing this for you or whether you need to do it yourself. We offer this for all our clients, but not all hire companies do!
3. How do I know whether the skip company is legitimate?
As a householder, you are liable for fines of up to £5000 if you hand your waste over to a non-authorised waste carrier. You will want to check whether the company is registered with the Environment Agency to provide the skip and safely dispose of your waste. You will also want to check that they have liability insurance, in case your property is damaged in the course of their work. If you want to work with us, you can rest assured that we have both!
4. Am I leaving enough time to book my skip?
We can often offer very short term delivery of your skip, but the earlier you book it in, the greater chance you have of having it there precisely when you need it and for as long as you need it for.
5. What size skip do I need and what can I put in it?
These are key questions which we have answered in detail in other blogs on our site. Read these or get in touch to go through the details!
Good luck with your project and we hope to work with you soon!
